Manhattan a Morelia. Una colisión cultural.
Solo show. October – December 2018
Centro Cultural Antiguo Colegio Jesuita. Pátzcuaro, México.
With the aim of showcasing the work he has produced during his four-year stay in the Michoacán capital, Max Nissenholtz presented his exhibition “Manhattan Goes to Morelia, a Cultural Collision” in 2018, opening on October 26 at the Antiguo Colegio Jesuita Cultural Center in Pátzcuaro.
Nissenholtz emphasized at a press conference that one of the main reasons for holding the exhibition was to share the lessons he learned from other Michoacán artists.
It was precisely the Day of the Dead tradition in Michoacán that captivated him. Seeing the colors and the respect people show to their deceased loved ones, he wanted to learn more about the customs and art of Michoacán.
“It was a unique experience for me, seeing the November 2nd tradition. This motivated me to stay and learn techniques from various Michoacán artists,” he added.
The exhibition consisted of 23 pieces, all of which allude to death. Among the techniques Max used were papier-mâché, painting, sculpture, and clay, to name a few.
